🇵🇹Portugal Pt. 2️⃣ - My favorite day. Not just for the beauty & thrill, but lesson learned on the gift of shattered expectations, and how people can surprise you beyond belief 😌

Rewind quick: When I asked Nic his #1 Porto reco, he said hands down, mopeding around the city. (Remember this for later)

Fast forward: I sign up for a tour showing big groups, oh my! So many peeps to befriend! But when I got there — my heart sank. I was the only participant. Extrovert me crushed, and felt anxious if I’d justify his time. To this day I feel guilt for this, bc this precious man gave me one of the best days of my life.

Introducing ✨Julio✨(swipe to see him in all his cheesing glory). The best way I can describe him is he felt like my lil Portuguese dad 🥹 Immediately he was upbeat & promised the best day together. My warmup was rough - I could tell Julio had his doubts about me in that moment lolol. But sure enough, we hit the road and the rest is history…

Literally. History lessons covering hundreds of years at every stop + why Julio loves Porto so much. His love & pride was PALPABLE. We were laughing & smiling nonstop. He never made me ask for a photo - he was all over it!! (peep the video 😆)

FOUR hours later we’d conquered winding steep cobblestone, highways, bridges, dense downtown, train tracks & swerving traffic, the beach, backroads & more. We covered the WHOLE DANG MAP, Y’ALL. Yes I believed in myself, but more so with Julio believing in me: “You are GOOD Vespa driver! I’m so proud!” 🥹 I didn’t want the day to end.

Thank you, Julio, for being so encouraging, sweet and celebratory. My heart will forever remain full from this day!!! 🛵💙 I’ve learned to approach situations with more optimism & compassion.

And yes we still stay in touch on WhatsApp! 🤗

Fast forward: I told Nic the profound day it’d been - he goes: “Bro, why do you think I have the Ponte Luis bridge tattooed on my arm? It’s because that same experience was one of the best days of my life.” My mind was blown. I hadn’t realized THAT was the tattoo or effect. It feels even more special knowing another human, much less a dear friend, just gets it. Wow.

🇵🇹Portugal Pt. 1️⃣ - first couple days 😀

Arrived in Porto in the morning, ‘twas greeted by @good.knight.sarah at our most sickest Airbnb / home for the next month, and immediately scarfed down the Portugal famous pastel de nata 🥮 with the satisfaction of a thousand cats housing catnip at the cafe just downstairs (say that 5x fast).

“We should probably learn how to make these, mmmmmohmygod.”

“YUP” [Proceeds to book baking class with the coolest cutest of German friends @klunkerbunker @sandy_schwalbesen 🇩🇪 - who little did we know would foreshadow our trip to Madeira!!🏝️]

Got to meet up with Julia - longtime bff going back to our U of Hawaii dorm days - which made my heart —> 🥰 What are da chances she was in Porto too, hmmmm. Just one of a bajillion “coincidences” that made this trip feel divine. 😌

‘Splored the city, comfy mom sandals and all, and had the most glorious first couple nights’ sleep like I was back in the womb, since it’s country-wide commonplace to have blackout electronic shades in all bedrooms. 🌚 “Maybe my destiny here is to just get good sleep for once.” And I would’ve been just fine with that. After all, I was here on the bizarrest of whims, mostly thanks to an Encyclopedia of 1962 from my bedroom library in LA. But that’s another story. 📖

It only took those first 2-3 days to feel a magic that wholeheartedly swept me off my clinically weak ankles. ✨ Can’t wait to share the rest with y’all!

Dear LA ~ You were really, really good to me.

Whether little moments in my house of sunsets off the porch, roses up the walkway, or roomie chats, I loved what I got to call home.

Whether it be improv class, stand-up shows, or short films, I love who I got to call my peers and inspiration.

Whether it be hikes up the canyon, nights at the arcade, or baby showers galore, I love the friends I shared core memories with, old and new.

I loved the life I got to start there. But for now, life has called me back to MN for a bit and I’m at peace with it (hard not to be when I have the best darndest family and OG besties here). If anything, it feels more special to know I have two places to call home in this great big beautiful world. Thank you to everyone who makes me feel at home, no matter where I am. I love you.

🌎 15 cities, 4 states, 3 months, 1 life changing adventure. One year ago, I left MN and embarked on the best decision I ever made of going on a “nomad” adventure, still working full-time but changing cities every 2 days or 2 weeks 🚗🗺️ From breathtaking existentially consuming views to getting stranded on mountain tops to gnarly scars from treacherous surfing, to less dramatic moments like hand-making empanadas and watching birds at the beach, those beautiful nights included stays in:

But the exception is people - I now love them more fiercely than ever before, especially my family when I’m away from them ♥️ And, the humans who made the dream all possible: @srirachaforall / @sethcooksforyou for being the best travel partner anyone could ask for - from logistics to driving to letting me have the nice bed and straight up being up for ANY adventure 💥 @good.knight.sarah for inspiring me through her own nomadic living (and joining us in AZ!!) 💃🏻, and @oliviabmortensen / @mortensen_designs / @ztmortensen whose brains I also picked endlessly to make it happen 🤗

I promised myself I would scrapbook-style share posts on each place, and I epically failed after only two. I still hold hope though that I’ll share larger photo dumps and stories with y’all. In the meantime, here are 10 glimpses from about 10,000 🤠

Some fun snippets from the 48 Hour Film Project we shot last summer, “Natural Selection” 🏕️ Written & directed by Spencer Knott & @kevinmnoonan. My castmates’ comedic genius came through in so many other highlight-worthy scenes but alas, I am obligated to share the parts in which a casting director said I look “absolutely adorable” with “baby cheeks that could take Hollywood by storm” (ok she didn’t say that second part but let’s be real, these cheeks could store enough acorns for a winter and no A-list actress can say the same amirite 🐿️) Anywho, enjoy!!

P.S. This work won us Best Picture Runner-Up, Best Director, Best Cast Ensemble, Best Supporting Actress (🙋‍♀️), Best Supporting Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Sound Design, and Audience Choice. Thaaank you all for the birthday wishes. Not every trip around the sun gets to be a stupendous year, but YOOO THIS PAST YEAR F’N ROCKED MY SOCKS OK 🔥🧦🎸

Of course there’s always bad with the good & vice versa. Don’t let these little squares fool anyone that it hasn’t been challenging. What I can share is that God’s provision has been eminent throughout. It’s like all the s***** things still get orchestrated into something beautiful and for that, I am in constant awe.

Gratitude is an understatement for every memory with every human this past birthday year. Here’s just a few that stand out 🤠
- 🌎 Stayed in 16 cities, 13 of those in 3 months as part of the nomad adventure with THE best travel partner ever @srirachaforall along w/guest appearances from @good.knight.sarah hehe💃🏻 (oh man I’m so behind on recap posts 🥴)
- Blessed as an auntie AGAIN 💙👶🏽
- Stopped spreading myself so thin with people and cultivated the deeper friendships I’ve always wanted 😌
- 🎤 Made a few exceptions to my 1.5-year long stand-up comedy hiatus: having the honor to host my first theater show for the hilarious @jrdguz in MN; opening for @williemacc & @virzitriplets at HOC; performing at @comedystorelj (thanks to your encouragement @officialnickbk); and with @mateenstewart where I met so many of my new LA friends. Thank you, guys 🥹
- 9 weddings 🎊 Congrats y’all!!!
- 7 unplanned months living with my madre that wound up being the most special time we’ve ever shared ❤️ (including her 70th in NYC!!🗽)
- 5 award-winning short films w/the best & kindest crews 🎥
- 3 work productions w/ @monoagency spanning TV, Social, CGI/VO that I’m so immensely proud of and get to be shared with the world soon!!! 🎬
- 1 inaugural family trip up north! 🌲
- 1 girls birthday trip to AZ 🏜️
- 1 incident of getting our SUV stuck sideways in a ditch atop a snowy mountain close to dusk with no cell phone signal and learning life be like dat sometimes 🏔️
- Relocated to LA 🌴

Whew. I love unpredictability. Excited for the unknown ahead 🕶️
